The Ugly Side of the Election

Elections always seem to bring the worst out in people. You find out how people really think, what they really feel, and sometimes, who they are voting for. This election is no different however, because of the candidates, it's about a thousand times worse. It's also 2020 so that is just the cherry on top. I mean, with everything that has gone on the 10 months, it's amazing we are even still here to vote! We've got, BLM, Antifa, Covid, Trump (an arrogant ass) vs Biden (a tired old man who smells children), the death of RG and the in-statement of ACB (supreme court justice).

Now, I have many friends on BOTH sides. I will say that I do not unfriend people unless they ONLY comment on my posts to be negative. I don't need that kind of person in my life. I like to surround myself with uplifting people regardless of how they think. I don't expect people to comment on my post but if you have something you want to say to me and only say it on facebook without ever saying anything else to me, there is literally no point in being friends. So I have unfriended several people this year due to that. But I have many friends who are very heated about this election. The most common phrases many of them have used are 'If you are a Christian you can't vote (Biden/Trump-both names have been used)', If you are a woman, you can't vote Trump', 'If you are a parent, you can't vote Biden', 'If you want Socialism-vote Biden', 'If you want white supremacist-vote Trump', to name a few. And this, to me, is VERY wrong and will only make those people you alienated unfriend/hate/unfollow you. I do the latter. I love my friends but I don't have to see the crap they spew all the time. And some I will follow again but only those that don't do the constant whining and complaining because they world doesn't think like them or act like them therefore is beneath them. Regardless, both sides and posted statements like this and it angers me.

Who you vote for should never have 100% bearing on you as a person. I know many amazing friends whom I love and hang out with and get along with and they LOVE Biden. I don't understand it and I will never understand it but it's one thing that doesn't reflect on who the person is for me. I don't automatically assume they like smelling children, killing babies, or like sleepy old men. I assume they have their very valid reasons for liking Biden and leave it at that. I also have many amazing friends whom I love and hang out with and get along with that LOVE Trump. I don't assume they abuse people around them, are white supremacist, and idiots with no education. I assume they have their reasons for liking Trump and leave it at that. I don't have to understand their why's. I don't have to like who they vote for. I don't have to unfriend them because they vote differently or think differently then I do. I get to be an adult who respects them as a person, understands they aren't perfect, and knows they have a RIGHT to vote for who they want and it DOES NOT HAVE TO REFLECT ON THEIR CHARACTER. I know many who are voting for their person based on policies from the man, not on the man himself. The sooner people remember that, the better. Those people who keep making the statements of 'if you are a __________, then you have to vote for ________' don't stop, they will lose another friend because I am sick of it. My vote DOES NOT DEFINE ME as a person. My ACTIONS define me as a person. And yes I am not perfect and yes I probably need to step up in a few areas but I am a good person with a good heart voting for what I feel is best for our country. It breaks my heart to constantly see the people I love make these statements. That should not be the reason you cause division in our friendship....ever. If it does, then were we really ever friends??
